  • Dracula felix - Orchids for the People

    Dracula felix

Blooming size plant in a 3" net pot.  This species produces small (about the size of a nickel) flowers that truly have a monkey face! Flowers in the summer for us. The short flower spikes emerge around the margin of the plant. The flowers tend to open all at the same time so it looks like a whole pack of monkeys (albeit tiny monkeys!) staring at you! Not only that, each flower spike will produce 2-5 flowers in succession over a period of a couple of months.  Best if hung up in a basket but this is one of the few Dracula species that can be grown in a pot on a table. Picture of plant not in bud representative of plant for sale.  Care: Minimum low temp of 46° F and a high of around 85°F. Anything over 80°, keep the plant really wet. We like to water them morning and evening at least a couple of times a week in the summer. Folks with greenhouses that have swamp coolers grow them directly in front of the cooler. We give our plants lots of light in the winter and lots of shade in the summer.

    Miltonia Hybrid (new!)

This is Miltonia (regnelii v alba x (spectabilis v moreliana x Seminole Blood). I know it's a mouthful but we haven't registered a name for it yet! Large, well-established blooming size plant in 3.25" pot.  I love this new cross we made! Every single plant has unique flowers! All have produced 3-6 flowers on their first flower spike. Flowers have been 3"-4" across. The majority of plants have had spotted flowers. The plant flowers in the late summer/early fall. I have included several pictures of flowers that have already bloomed to show a representation of the flowers we have seen so far. Please note: I cannot pick a particular flower pattern. Later in the season I will have auctions for individual plants with select flowers on our eBay site (Orchids for the People). Select plants will be considerably more expensive! Care: Intermediate - warm temps, bright indirect sun, regular watering, and light feeding year-round.

  • Last stock! Maxillaria densa - Orchids for the People

    Maxillaria densa

Well-established blooming size plant in a 3.25" pot. This is one of my favorite "weird" orchids! The growth habit is unusual in that it climbs, producing new pseudobulbs above the last mature pseudobulb on stiff, short rhizomes. They appear to be monopodial (they're not, they also produce new growth at the base of the plant, but most of the new growth emerges at the top of the plant). In addition to the weird growth habit, the flowers are bizarre! Many (30-50+) small, fragrant white flowers emerge from around the base of new pseudobulbs. It looks like they are exploding out of the plant, alien-style! Care: Cool-warm temps, shade-indirect light, and regular year-round watering and light feeding.

The fragrant, waxy flowers last longer if the plant remains relatively dry during the bloom cycle.  Care: Regular watering and light feeding spring-fall, intermediate to warm temps spring-fall and a cooler (45-55), much drier rest period in the winter.
