Pterostylis
-
LightPterostylis can grow in a variety of light conditions, from full shade to bright sun, but should be protected from the hot afternoon sun. If grown in too much shade, the inflorescence may fall over.
-
TemperaturePterostylis prefers intermediate to warm temperatures. During dormancy, temperatures should be kept between 68-77°F.
-
WateringWater Pterostylis steadily when it's actively growing, but reduce watering when the leaves start to yellow and the plant enters dormancy. During dormancy, keep the pots mostly dry.
-
SoilPterostylis grows best in a light, sandy, well-draining terrestrial mixture. You can also grow it in a 3:1 soil to perlite mix.
-
PottingGrow Pterostylis in shallow pots. Growing them in clear plastic pots can encourage multiplication through adventitious root tubers.
-
FertilizingUse orchid fertilizer when the plant is in full growth.
-
RepottingRepot during the dormant period.
-
DormancyDormancy can last 2–3 months, depending on growing conditions. You can collect the corms while the plant is dormant, or leave them alone and new plants will develop from the roots.
