    Masdevallia Falcon Sunrise

Well-established blooming size plant in a 3.25" pot. This plant is a stunner! For those of you who can grow cooler growing orchids, this is a must-have! If a flower can be both dark red and bright red at the same time this is it. The throat is an orangey-red that bleeds out into the solid red sepals. The flowers float 3-6" above the leaves on stout (for a Masdevallia), single-flowered spikes.I've been trying for many years to capture a photo of this flower that does it justice and have yet to succeed! They are the first flowers to grab people's attention in the greenhouse.Blooms in the spring and early summer.Care: These plants like it cool, moist and shady. • Masdevallia schroederiana - Orchids for the People

    Masdevallia schroederiana

Well-established blooming size plants in 3.25" pots. We got our start growing Masdevallias and Draculas and after nearly 30 years this is still one of my favorites! The pictures tell a better story than I can! These are very compact plants, some people call them miniatures. Leaves are approx. 4-6 inches tall and the sturdy flower spikes are generally a couple of inches taller (tall enough to display the flowers nicely but not so tall as to be susceptible to breakage). The tricolor flowers are dark red on the sides, crystalline white toward the bottom and egg yolk yellow in the throat and tepals. Flowers are approx. 3-4 inches tall, tip to tip. Flowers 2 times a year, winter and summer.Like most Masdevallias, this species prefers cool-intermediate temps, moist and shady growing environment with plenty of air movement. They are particular about their growing conditions but if you have the right environment they grow really fast.

  • Maxillaria densa - Orchids for the People

    Maxillaria densa

Well-established blooming size plant in a 3.25" pot. This is one of my favorite "weird" orchids! The growth habit is unusual in that it climbs, producing new pseudobulbs above the last mature pseudobulb on stiff, short rhizomes. They appear to be monopodial (they're not, they also produce new growth at the base of the plant, but most of the new growth emerges at the top of the plant). In addition to the weird growth habit, the flowers are bizarre! Many (30-50+) small, fragrant white flowers emerge from around the base of new pseudobulbs. It looks like they are exploding out of the plant, alien-style! Care: Cool-warm temps, shade-indirect light, and regular year-round watering and light feeding.
